Skoda Rapid Preview
Skoda India has bestowed fresh dose of updates on the Rapid sedan which rivals Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and Volkswagen Vento in the segment. Having received exterior tweaks, Rapid facelift looks sharper with most of the changes made to the front profile. Inside, it retains styling elements from the pre-facelifted model, but gets additional kit over its predecessor. Richer in terms of feature, it now gets automatic headlamps, cruise control and touchscreen infotainment system. Yet another prominent addition to the new Rapid line-up is the 1.5 litre TDI engine tuned to churn higher output.
With new additions made to the sedan it looks bolder, sharper and more powerful. As for the engine, it comes with a choice of petrol and diesel units. While the petrol engine has been retained from the previous model, the 1.5 litre mill, which also does duty on the Ameo sub-compact sedan now develops 5bhp more power. Transmission duties are handled by a manual gearbox and an automatic unit is also available on select variants. The new Skoda Rapid range is available in three trim levels-Active, Ambition and Style.
Skoda Rapid Exterior
Launched in India in 2011, Rapid has received copious changes in the recent facelift, mostly highlighted on the front profile. The updates made to the exterior are in tandem with Skoda’s new design language. Chrome laden radiator grille integrates into the larger angular headlamp cluster. Masculine lines on the bonnet remind of the older Superb, while bumpers are all-new and bigger. Other additions such as trapezoidal fog lamps and black cladding add to the assertive front look. As for the side and rear facets, it remain largely untouched sporting minimal changes.

Step inside and you will realise that Skoda have made subtle changes which include addition of cruise control, new touchscreen infotainment system and a couple of other fitments. In terms of styling it remains largely same.
Skoda Rapid Engine Specifications & Transmission
Engine set up powering the new Skoda Rapid includes a 1.6 litre, in-line petrol engine with liquid cooling system and the tweaked 1.5 litre TDI diesel unit. Talking about the 1.6 litre petrol engine, it gets four cylinders and makes 104bhp of power along with 153Nm of torque. Coming to the diesel powertrain it produces 5bhp more power at 109bhp along with 250Nm of torque. As for transmission, the petrol variants get an option between 5-speed manual and six-speed Tiptronic automatic gearbox. Diesel trims on the other hand are available with the 5-speed manual and 7-speed DSG automatic unit.
Skoda Rapid Features
Chrome finished radiator grille, chrome surround for radiator grille, chrome moulding on deck lid and chrome door handles adorn the exterior. Inside, it gets chrome décor around door handles, front centre console, gear shift selector. Chrome trim is also visible on air conditioning vents and steering wheel.
Skoda Rapid Performance & Mileage
Fuel efficiency for the petrol manual variant is rated at 15.41km/l and the automatic version delivers 14.84km/l. Diesel variants are more frugal and are claimed to return 21.13km/l (manual) and 21.72km/l (automatic).
Skoda Rapid Accessories & Infotainment
Infotainment features inside the cabin include 2-DIN audio player, 6.5 inch drive audio player central infotainment system, MirrorLink connectivity, large format display, speakers, audio controls on steering wheel, USB port, Aux-in and SD/MMC data card reader.
Skoda Rapid Safety & Security
From the raft of safety provisions, here are a few significant ones-fog lamps in front & rear, ABS, hill hold control for automatic transmission, ESC for diesel automatic, dual front airbags, parttronic sensor at rear, height adjustable seat belts, child-proof rear locking door, remote control opening and closing of windows, engine immobiliser and automatic locking of door son overrun speed.
Skoda Rapid Comfort & Convenience
Rapid is stuffed an array of comfort goodies. It sports armrests in front & rear, height adjuster for driver, climatronic, power-operated ORVMs with side turn indicators and electrically foldable function. Other than the aforementioned features, it is also gets one-touch automatic operation of windows, bounce-back system, GSM telephone preparation with Bluetooth, telephone controls on multi-function steering wheel, Bluetooth audio streaming, 12V power socket, cooled glove-box and several others.

The Active trims get 15 inch full steel wheels and rest of the trims are equipped with 15-inch alloy wheels.
