Sky News host Chris Kenny says he doesn’t care for the politics surrounding a drug which is being touted as a potential cure to combat the deadly coronavirus pandemic, he just hopes “it works”. There has been widespread interest in medical and political circles as to the use of a common medicine, which is utilised to treat malaria and rheumatoid arthritis, to potentially combat COVID-19.
The anti-malarial drug called hydroxychloroquine is currently being trialed to fight the disease.
“Some doctors in China, the US and Europe say it has worked well at controlling COVID-19 symptoms and keeping coronavirus patients out of hospital,” Mr Kenny said.
He also said there has been some “big media backlash against this drug, mainly because Donald Trump dared to speak positively about it”.
“At present, no drug has been proven to be safe and effective for treating COVID-19,” Mr Kenny said.
“I for one, don't care whether Donald Trump likes it, or Kim Jong Un recommends it or it's a favourite of Jacinda Ardern's”.
“ I just hope this, or some other drug, works”.
