Significant drop in support for Premier Daniel Andrews’ handling of COVID-19: Newspoll Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews is the only premier in the country who has suffered a significant blow in popularity and in perception of how he is handling the coronavirus crisis according to the latest Newspoll.

The Victorian premier’s satisfaction rate dropped from 75 per cent to 67 per cent compared to four point increases for the Queensland, and SA premiers and a six point increase for Tasmanian Premier Peter Gutwein.

In terms of handling the coronavirus crisis Premier Andrews has dropped 13 points from 85 to 72.

Other than Premier Andrews’ performance, all other premiers have experienced a significant boost from the polls as a result of the coronavirus.

Sky News host Rowan Dean said a lot of fear was generated by the media and by politicians during the crisis which has a part to play in the increase in popularity.

“When you have people scared and they have strong leaders making strong decisions, people support that”.
