The CIA's MKULTRA is definitely the most terrifying psychological experiment, mainly because of the amount of people involved and the amount of subjects tested on.
There is always something strange about experiments conducted on humans, especially physiology ones. Although they do give us an insight into curing many illnesses and diseases, There are always stories of experiments going wrong. Here we have five that where not only incredibly unethical but also led to disastrous outcomes.
Dr. Cameron's hopeful Schizophrenia cure by subjecting patients to brain washing in the 1950 and 60s.
Homosexual Aversion Therapy, which subjected patients to painful electrocutions and drug induced sickness to attempt to "cure" them of there attraction to the same sex. Instead it cause many suicides and mental illness.
Dr Wendell Johnson's "Monster Study" is another experiment that caused uproar. 22 orphans where used, in an attempt to prove stuttering was not genetic. Many of the orphans developed speech problems and social damage linked to the experiment.
The story of David Reimer is probably the most well know study of its kind. David was born a boy but raised up as a girl in an attempt to "change" his gender. The experiment was a disaster, David's family suffered terrible physiological problems and David ended his life at age 38.
MK Ultra is one of the biggest undercover experiments ever documented.
It was an illegal mind control Program conducted by the CIA. Where drugs and other methods where used in an attempt to alter ones mind state so that it could be programmed.
The testing was incredibly unethical and several deaths have been associated with the project.
