Scummy Unplugged Exclusive Interview with Jakob Nowell of “LAW”
I was thinking I’d interview some other amazing sober warriors other than musicians, but, when you get a chance to interview a guy like I did this month, well, I don’t think I need to say more. When I finished this interview, I was on cloud nine. One of the best for the Unplugged Archives!
His story, his family’s story, of punk stardom and it being intertwined with crazy drug use, addiction and tragedy as well as the foundation his family set up as a way to help others was a story I had to hear and let you hear as well.
Jakob Nowell isn’t quite yet in the stratosphere of superstardom, but I’m sure, beyond a shadow of a doubt, he will be. In fact, I’ll go on record as telling you, this guy is going to be huge. His talent combined with his passion and mind as well as probably his genetics, make it a certainty.
You see, Jakob Nowell is the son of Bradley Nowell. A name you probably know. What is it that guy said in the Blade Runner movie? “The light that burns twice as bright, burns half as long”. Jakob’s dad, Bradley, was the front man for the multiplatinum band, Sublime. Horrible, tragic story of the amazing talent Bradley had … “burning brightly, half as long”. One more insanely creative person lost to the disease of addiction at a far too early age. What a waste! Any of us who love hard, hard rock, lost him but probably no one as much as his son Jakob who now, like his father, is the front man of his own band from Long Beach, hard rockers, LAW.
Obviously people compare Jacob, who’s 23, to his dad when he was that age. They’re both fronting hard rock bands. At times, Jakob sounds like his dad but he’s definitely got his own unique sound, which is very bad ass by the way, and being compared to his dad is something he’s cool with and has embraced for now as he and his band build buzz for their own music.
Besides being a crazy talented musician himself, we’re talking on Scummy Unplugged because he and his dad also shared an addiction story. Jakob’s is powerful but it’s not gonna end in tragedy, its gonna have a happy ending and he’s gonna reach a lot of people, mark my words. He’s got 2 years sober now and is as passionate and determined to spread the message of hope and sobriety as he is about his music. By the way, his band LAW just released its first full-length album, “There and Back Again” and it’s bad ass. I’ll include a link.
Anyhow, on to Jakob’s story. You’ll love my interview. I loved this guy. You will too.
