Government says Britons abroad will need to remain patient over potential repatriation rescue The Transport Secretary, Grant Shapps, said the £75m rescue plan for tens of thousands of British travellers stranded overseas, the Transport Secretary said that dozens of chartered flights would be scheduled in the coming days.

However, he said the deal struck with five British airlines also depended on people using commercial flights where possible.

He also conceded that some travellers would be forced to wait longer due to national lockdowns in the countries they are stuck in, after the British High Commission in New Zealand warned yesterday that there were "no immediate fixes".
